![]() Web Server Directory Structure |
|
|
The directory structure is key to operating the LRG Complete© web site. The links to the additional pages are based on the site structure. The automatic menu generated for the galleries is also based on the site structure.
NOTE: Directory structures are different on each web site server. If you do not know the directory structure of your web site server, see your web site administrator for more information.
CRITICAL: Spaces are no longer used in directory names under LRG Complete©. Instead an underline character ('_') is used in place of spaces. For example, a directory for a Page called 'About Us' would be uploaded as 'About_Us' or 'about_us' or 'aboutus', but not as 'About Us' Similarly, a Gallery called 'Nature Photos' would be uploaded as 'Nature_Photos'. It would then be represented on the Side Menu as 'Nature Photos' and the underline character would be removed.
Domain - The domain is the base web site. The domain has a web address and a physical location on a hard drive. For example, the domain might be www.lightroomgalleries.com. The physical disk address might be
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries (in Linux) or,
c:\inetpub\www\lightroomgalleries (in windows)
Note that these directories may differ depending on how your web server is setup, but we will use these directories in our examples that follow.
Pages Directory - The pages directory is a physical location on the hard drive under the domain directory. The name of the directory is "pages". This directory is 'hidden' from the web site and contains subdirectories for any additional pages created from the web gallery - LRG Complete© - Pages. Thus the directory that holds all of the pages directories might be as follows:
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries\pages
Pages Subdirectories - The subdirectories under the Pages Directory contain the additional pages created for the web site using the LRG Complete© - Pages Web Gallery. Note the name of the directory is the name of the link to the page. Thus, if the directory is called "aboutme" then the link to the page in the menu items is: 'aboutme'. Think of the link as the directory label to find the page. This directory is hidden from the web site. Thus, the About Me page directory might be as follows:
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries\pages\aboutme
Gallery Directory - The gallery directories are physical locations on the hard drive under the domain directory. The name of the directory is "galleries". This directory is 'hidden' from the web site and contains subdirectories for any additional galleries created from the web gallery - LRG Complete© Gallery. Thus, the directory that holds all of the gallery directories might be as follows:
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries\galleries\
Gallery Subdirectories - The subdirectories under the Gallery Directory contain the categories used in organizing the Galleries displayed on the Side Menu. The name of each subdirectory under "galleries" will show up as a main category in the Side Menu on the LRG Complete© - Shell Web Gallery. For example, the category "Sample Photos" might be found in the Linux directory
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries\galleries\Sample_Photos
This is the Sample Photos category. Notice that the directory must use spaces and capital letters to show on the menu correctly, i.e., "samplephotos" would show up on the categories menu as "samplephotos".
The sub-subdirectories under the different category subdirectories represent the actual gallery. Thus, to create a gallery in the Sample Photos category, we would upload a page created from the LRG Complete© - Gallery Web Gallery to the galleries sub directory 'Sample_Photos'. For example, to create the gallery titled "A Few Photos" we would upload the gallery to the Linux directory:
home\www\htdocs\lightroomgalleries\Sample_Photos\A_Few_Photos
Notice again that the capitalization of the directory name is important as the directory name determines the text that shows in the Category and Gallery menu. In addition, just like the pages, the name of the gallery with the category represents a link to that gallery. I.e., the link to this gallery is "Sample_Photos\A_Few_Photos".
The following example illustrates this concept and is taken directory from a sample ftp site.
NOTE: Note the all lowercase setting for the 'pages' directory and each Page Web Gallery underneath that directory. Also note the use of upper and lowercase for the 'Samples' Gallery category directory and the same for the 'My New Photos' Gallery directory underneath. This use of upper and lowercase for the Gallery directories determines the styling of the text in the Side Menu shown on your web site.
